Winter Motorcycle ridingSome riders put the bike in storage the minute the mercury dips. Many riders use warm gloves built for cold temperatures according to which weather zone they are traveling to.

But if you're a winter rider, cold blustery weather doesn't phase you. You already know that the secret to staying comfortable for year round riding really isn't a secret -- invest in good, warm gear.

Fortunately, gear and glove manufacturers continue to improve the gear that's available. Our goal is to block the wind, seal out wet, and lessen your exposure to the weather.

While we have always made insulated gloves, the materials we get to use are improving every year.  Here's what you'll find in the way of warm, winter gloves.

Heat Trapping Fibers Keep Hands Warm

Your body is like a furnace -- constantly breaking down the fuel you put into it and turning it into the energy that keeps you moving.

In the winter, you can stay warm during outdoor activities – so long as you keep that heat contained.

Problem is, when riding a motorcycle at 60+ mph, your hands are constantly exposed to the elements, and especially vulnerable to heat loss.

Thankfully, the wizards at 3M invented Thinsulate

This insulating material offers "warmth without bulk" ... and when added to motorcycle gloves, helps to keep hands warm.

Keep Warm and Ride Your Motorcycle Longer In Cold Weather

winter_duoMan has yet to control climate in order to make every day a good day for riding.

So, in lieu of chanting and prayer, the keys to cold weather motorcycle riding are the proper gear and preparation.

Here are some tips from experienced riders:

  • First, check local forecasts for the area you’ll be riding in and make sure you have the necessary gear on hand for the weather.

  • No matter what the outside temperature, remember to calculate for the wind-chill factor.

  • Make sure that as little skin is exposed to the elements as possible, and take care to cover the gaps in your attire at the wrists, necks, and ankles.
